"Who do I want to be in 2023?" This is the most important question you can ask yourself right now. 

The answer to this question will lay the framework for what you accomplish.

How you see yourself in your mind is your self image. You cannot out-perform self image. However you see yourself in your minds eye will dictate your behaviour and ultimately, your results.

And this is why 92% of people fail to accomplish their goals.

How it works…

Let’s say that one of your goals for the next year is to improve your health and fitness and one of the ways you intend to do this is to begin working out regularly. Let’s say that right now, you don’t workout at all, but starting in the New Year, you would like to begin a fitness program. As of now, your self image is of a person who doesn’t workout. How successful would you be without changing your self image?

Like most people who set January fitness goals, you probably wouldn’t last beyond February 17th.

Now, let’s say you change your self image to that of a person who enjoys fitness, who looks forward to their workouts, who values working out regularly. Now how successful will you be?

Very. You would become the person who see yourself being in your mind.

This is a secret of high performers. They are envisioning themselves not as they are, but as the person they are becoming.

Now let’s put this into a business context.

Scenario: the goal next year is double your revenue to an amount you have never earned before. In your mind, maybe you see all the previous years where you failed to earn more money. You see yourself struggling to do it again this year. When you think of the goal you have many doubts and uncertainties, and it makes you feel bad. You see yourself in same financial position you’re in right now.

In this scenario, how likely would you be to succeed? Not very likely.

So here is what I want you to do next.

Get out your journal and answer the following questions for yourself:

  1. What do I want to accomplish in the next 12 months?
  2. Who do I need to be to accomplish this/these goals?
  3. What does that person do each day?
  4. What do they wear?
  5. What’s most important to them?
  6. How do they eat?
  7. What are their daily habits?
  8. Who do they associate with?
  9. What do they do for fun?
  10. What do they read?
  11. What does it feel like to be them?

Once you have a complete image of this person who you will become, I want you to put yourself into a relaxing, meditative state and image being this person. What does it feel like when you’re this person?
